On the event of their second live performance within the UAE, the 2 legendary performers Martha Argerich and Gidon Kremer have chosen to play in Al Ain, for a powerful night within the extraordinary out of doors setting of Qasr Al Muwaiji. For a primary live performance ever to be performed within the newly renovated fort and museum, there couldn’t have been a greater line-up than two of the best dwelling interpreters of classical music along with the Chamber Orchestra that Kremer based in 1997, the Kremerata Baltica, composed of younger musicians from all three Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia).
On the programme is once more a powerful array of works, together with two distinguished items from 20th century music: Weinberg’s Sinfonietta Nr.2 for strings and timpani and Shostakovich’s experimental but neo-classical Concerto for piano, trumpet and strings. Schumann’s Bilder aus Osten, impressed by the German poet Friedrich Rückert’s adaptation of al-Harīrī’s Maqāmāt will recall this yr’s theme of the TCA Abu Dhabi Classics programme and contribute to the additional understanding of the relation between poetical and musical expression. As a professor of Oriental languages on the College of Erlangen, Rückert had first revealed in 1826 his work Die Makâmen des Hariri on the premise of the Classical Arab poet al-Hariri of Basra (1054-1122) rhymed prose, inspiring in flip Schumann to a vivid romantic and playful interpretation of the Arab topics he had found via Rückert’s guide. Rounding off the night, the model for violin and piano of Mozart’s Concerto KV 299 will once more enable the 2 nice performers Argerich and Kremer to point out all their ardour and mastery.
